The Hierarchy of Control
Avoid working at height where possible
Can the work be done from ground level?
Use extending tools or relocate equipment to
ground level
Even falls from less than 2 metres can
result in serious or fatal injuries.
If working at height cannot be avoided:
Use permanent access solutions where
possible (xed stairs, platforms with handrails)
Ensure proper equipment is available (don't
make do with what's at hand)
Use appropriate access equipment
(scaolding, cherry pickers, properly secured
ladders)
Minimise the consequences of a fall:
Use fall prevention equipment (guardrails,
working platforms)
Ensure fall protection is in place (safety
harnesses where appropriate)
Know what to do if someone falls:
Always conduct a risk assessment before
starting work
Don't take the risk!
